Cistanche Tubulosa

Cistanche Tubulosa increases the sex hormone levels by inducing testicular steroidogenic enzymes, improves brain mechanism, regulates blood glucose level for treatment of Type I and Type II diabetes, promotes hair growth, and has immune-boosting effect that activates lymphoid cells and increases the killed rate of cancer cells.

According to a United States Patent Application Publication by Chin-Wen Lee from Sinphar Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Taiwan, (CW Lee – US Patent App. 15/854,722, 2018 – Google Patents), Cistanche tubulosa is also called “ desert ginseng” and is a type of Cistanche. Traditionally, Cistanche tubulosa is a drug used to invigorates the kidney and as an aphrodisiac. It can be used to treat impotence , infertility , weakness , sore waist and knee , and constipation . Cistanche tubulosa has been an entry in “Chinese Pharmacopoeia ” since the 2005 edition . Cistanche has effects of anti-oxidation , protecting nerve cell (such as inhibiting neuronal apoptosis ), promoting nerve growth factor secretion , regulating brain neurotransmitters , improving learning and memory , and reducing the generation of brain amyloid .

Chinese Wolfberry

According to research article on Ageing Research Reviews Volume 9, Issue 3, July 2010, Pages 354-362, The fruit of L. barbarum, also called wolfberry, is a commonly used herb in Asian countries. In China, where it is also named as Gouqizi, this fruit is particularly famous for its beneficial effects on eye and liver. According to the Chinese pharmacopoeia, wolfberry is regarded as upper class herb, indicating that it has good therapeutic effects and little side effects. The fruit belongs to ‘‘Yintonifying herb’’ and is believed to be effective in replenishing any deficient ‘‘Yin’’ (a kind of vital energy); hence balancing homeostasis in our body (Benzie et al., 2006; Chang and So, 2007). It has been reported that the fruit has a high content of zeaxanthin (30 mg/100 g), which is beneficial to the aging eye for prevention of aged-related macula degeneration and aged-related cataract formation (Pratt, 1999; Mares-Perlman et al., 2002). The fruit also contains high content of b-carotene (up to 19.6 mg/100 g) (Qi and Li, 1981), and long-term b-carotene supplement may provide cognitive benefits (Grodstein et al., 2007). Betaine can also be found in L. barbarum. It works with other nutrients to break down excess homocysteine (Selhub, 1999), which is considered to be a risk factor for Alzheimer Disease (Seshadri, 2006).
